Custom Flag Benches:
Do you have a bench that I can turn into a flag bench? I have an inventory of benches that people donate. Years of neglect means all the wood needs to be replaced. I use White Oak, a quality product. The standard cast iron flag bench is 4ft wide, the height ranges from 28" to 30" and this changes how much wood is needed.
All flag benches have a blue cast steel background and fifty 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" white powdered baked steel stars are attached by hand with stainless steel screws. Please note this is a bench being customized to appear like a flag. The bench will not have 13 stripes like as actual United States Flag, however I can make it appear correct by painting the boards to look like it has 13 stripes.
I have a picture of a flag that I made for a customer. I purchased a plain wooden glider bench from Amazon for $300. I replaced all the wood with white oak. This increased the price for the glider. Amazon gliders are different from cast iron benches.
The Process:
I sit with each bench to determine if the structure is sound and what steps I need to take to make it a beautifully handcrafted keepsake. I will provide a written quote within 2-3 weeks of receiving a bench. If you accept the quote, I ask you to sign the quote and put down a 50% deposit of the full price. Only then will I schedule it for production. If you need it in a hurry, I'm not your guy.
Each bench is handcrafted and not produced on an assembly line. If you appreciate craftsmanship, I am your guy!
All benches get new hardware which is included in the quote you will receive.
I customize standard benches and they all have a different designs, which also changes the amount of work; therefore the price.
The painting or staining is totally up to the customer. We choose colors together. The benches are sandblasted to the original cast iron. Once this is complete the bench is spray painted with the chosen color.
Flag benches use more wood, than memorial benches. Flag benches take more time as all 50 stars are attached, one at a time.
Some clients want a message or memorial engraved in the wood. Depending on the customer’s vision they can have anything engraved at $60. per board. Engraving changes the timeline to complete the bench. Rushing effects quality. I will not rush through the process.
Care for Your Custom Flag Bench:
All benches are cast iron. Once the bench is received by the customer, it is their responsibility to care for the bench. Cast iron cannot be welded once broken. Do not put excessive weight (above 300 lbs) on the custom bench. All benches should be protected from rain, snow, etc., like anything else. This is a wood bench. It will not last in the crazy weather. I advise you to cover the flag bench with a grill cover to protect it, or take it inside when the weather turns cold. I can't be responsible for future wear and tear of any bench, since it is out of my hands. I will recommend the color for future upkeep.
